The Carolina Camera Club will be holding another field trip on Sunday, February 26, 2012.
Along the back roads of the Upstate of South Carolina, there are many old buildings that represent a time from long ago. Some of these are still in use while others have been abandoned and are in a state of decay. Time marches on to destroy these icons by natural means or in the name of progress. I know of three places near where I live in Inman, SC that merit a visit from photographers interested in this type of photography.
Stop number 1 will be at an old workshop/shed across the street of a fellow who passed away last autumn. I’ve had my photographers eye on this shed for years wondering what was inside. I recently found out and want to share it with you.
Stop number 2 will be at an old peach barn. Cantilever barns are symbols of the areas big peach industry. These old, barn board type of structures are being replaced with newfangled, modern material type of barns or are disappearing altogether. I do not know of many left in this area.
Stop number 3, the last stop, will be at what looks like an old office/business center for a peach orchard. The peach trees have been uprooted and stacked in large brush piles waiting to be burned. This tract of land is scheduled to become a county park so I know this old cinderblock building will be razed soon.
Let’s meet by stop number 1 at 2 PM on Sunday. On Rt 176 between Inman and Campobello, you’ll find the Gramling Post Office. Next door is an old brick building housing Gramling Discount Tobacco and The Carousel Shop, a childrens consignment shop. Use the post office address of 14921 Asheville highway, Inman, SC in your GPS and park behind the consignment/tobacco store.
